7 Work from Home Essentials

There’s a large number of office-goers now working from home (dubbed WFH because us millennials make everything an acronym). This is an extremely blessed situation to be in during this time, but it can be an adjustment if you’re used to putting on real pants, going into the office, having “water cooler breaks” with coworkers, and in-person meetings.

If anything, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that so many different sectors can work remotely, and this shift (or rather push) toward technology and expanded opportunities likely isn’t going away any time soon.

If you’re finding yourself in this new situation, like me for the past six weeks, I’ve put together my top 7 picks that have made my work days exponentially better.

  1. A WFH capsule – A sweater blazer over loungewear, a headband to mask day 3 hair, and of course, slippers. You’ll be comfy and still look super put together on those video conferences.

  1. Note-able mouse pad – Stay on track when you can’t even remember what day it is. A weekly notepad provides a smooth surface for your mouse and serves as a handy place to jot your schedule, meetings notes, a to-do list, or whatever you need to keep track of right at your finger tips.

  1. A good playlist – I’m so used to the tapping of keyboards and shuffling of coworkers around me in the office. To provide some background noise while helping me get in the zone, I really like playing Vitamin String Quartet while I work.
  1. Blue light blocking glasses – A work essential! These helped my headaches from staring at a computer at the office and are needed now more than ever since we’re staring at our computers, on our phones more frequently, and binging Netflix. That’s a lot of blue light! I’ve had a pair of Felix Grays for over a year and love them. I’ve also linked a few other cute options below.

  1. Coffee maker – If you find yourself missing the stop at coffee shop on your commute to work, try making a latte at home. I have the K-Cafe brewer and enjoy a frothy, warm oatmilk caramel latte almost every morning nowadays. It is a delicious pick me up, and this brewer has already paid for itself in the money I’ve saved from Starbucks trips.
  1. Laptop tray – Allows you to work from your couch or bed. I also use this as a food tray and phone stand for hour long FaceTimes with friends.
The White Company
  1. A solid routine – This is going to look different for everyone, and that’s okay. Finding what works best for you is the key to being successful while working from home. For me, it’s keeping as similar a schedule to my typical hours in the office as possible with small breaks to stretch my legs or do a quick errand at specific intervals.
